SOTA CoursesWe offer a wide variety of instrumental, vocal, dramatic and artistic instruction in both private and group settings. Whether beginner, intermediate or advanced, we provide instruction for students of all ages who seek to develop their giftedness. In addition, students will be taught to understand the value of their art as it relates to worship.
Following is a general list of courses offered. All courses listed are not offered every semester. For semester listings, please refer to the current registration form. For tuition information, please refer to the registration information.
Private Instrumental Instruction - Learn to develop and improve playing techniques. Students must be able to practice the instrument at home. 30-minute lessons. (ages 6-Adult) (For semester listings, please refer to the current registration form.) For tuition information, please refer to the registration information.
Private Vocal Instruction - Learn to develop and improve vocal techniques. 30-minute lessons. (ages 12-Adult) (For semester listings, please refer to the current registration form.) For tuition information, please refer to the registration information.
Private Songwriting/Theory Instruction - Learn to apply music theory to your sketched song ideas. 30-minute lessons. (minimum 2 years experience in piano or guitar) For more information or questions regarding this course, please contact Ben Gazaway. Cost is $75/monthly. (NEW!!!) Young Songwriters Class - ondays from 5 to 6 PM
This year, we’re excited to offer our first songwriting class for those students with 2+ years experience on an instrument who would like to learn more about creating their own music. Students will have the opportunity to write instrumental pieces as well as lyrical pieces and learn the fundamentals of composing and music theory. Class size is limited to 6 so register today! Cost is $120 per semester.
(NEW!!!) Beginner Violin Class - Tuesdays from 6 to 7 PM
This class is a great opportunity for beginning violin students to learn violin. Taught by Margaret Brown, co-founder of the MISD Orchestra program, students will learn the basics of violin technique, music reading and musicianship in a small group environment. Class size is limited to 6. Cost is $120 per semester.
(NEW!!!) Beginner Guitar Class - Monday’s from 4:30 to 5:30 PM
This class is perfect for those beginners who want to learn the basics of playing acoustic guitar. Instruction includes chord construction, strumming, fingerstyle and musicianship. Class size is limited to 10 so reserve your spot today! Cost is $100 per semester.
(New!!!) Electric Guitar Workshop - Mondays from 6 to 7 PM
This is a great opportunity for the intermediate guitar student to take his/ her playing to the next level. Taught by UNT grad. Aaron Flores (M.M. Jazz Studies), students will grow in their knowledge of chords and chord theory as well as their rhythm and soloing skills all in an encouraging small group environment. Class size is limited to 6. Cost is $120 per semester.
(NEW!!!) Adult Art Instruction - (ages 13+)- Mondays (time TBA)
This semester we are very excited to have Melinda Whitten teaching our first art instruction class aimed primarily at students 13 and older (younger students will be considered on an interview basis). This 1-hour class will feature units in drawing, painting with acrylics and painting with oils. Class size is limited to 10 so get your spot today! Cost is $120 per semester plus the cost of materials.
(New!!!) Music School Prep - (Must be Junior or Senior in High School) (Day & Time TBA)
For the first time, SOTA is offering a preparatory class designed specifically for the Junior/ Senior in High School that is looking to study music at the next level. This 12-week course will cover the broad themes in music theory, music history, sight-reading and repertoire that students will encounter their freshman year of college. Class size is limited to 6. Cost is $120 per 12-week semester.
