FAQ about being a part of the Christmas Journey:

Do I have to volunteer all three nights of the Journey, December 10th, 11th & 12th?
It is preferable for cast to be able to participate all three nights of the journey.  It makes casting much less tricky.  However, we realize that there are unavoidable conflicts (such as school choir concerts and out of town company...).  It is easier to place those available all 3 nights in requested scenes.  Those available all 3 nights will usually get placed first.

My child is in middle school and is very responsible.  Can they participate in Christmas Journey without me?
No.  Students younger than high school are not allowed to participate in Christmas Journey without parental/adult supervision throughout the event (in the same scene).  We know there are very responsible students out there in middle school, but for the sake of safety and security we need all students through the 8th grade to be fully supervised by a parent/adult throughout the entire event each evening (in the same scene).  There is a place on the registration to indicate who the responsible adult will be for a child not in high school if the parents are not participating.

Do I need to make my own costume for Christmas Journey?
Some costumes are provided for certain characters in the Journey.  Some will need to provide their own costumes for the Journey.  For more information regarding costumes, please click on the "Costume Information" link to the left.

How is casting done?  Do I need to audition for Christmas Journey?
There are no auditions for Christmas Journey.  The casting committee places CJ volunteers according to appearance and age.  For instance, those cast as Jesus are similar in age and stature and can grow full beards.  Those cast as Pharisees are generally older, with graying beards.  Families with younger children are generally placed in Bethlehem or Jerusalem.

Do I have to grow a beard to be in the Christmas Journey cast?
It is highly recommended that if you CAN grow a beard, you do.  In the day, time and region we are portraying through the Journey, the majority of men grew beards.  There are very few casting roles where a beard is not required.  VERY few.  What little bit of beard you can grow (a week's worth of growth) will be very helpful and can be enhanced with stage makeup as needed.  Every little bit helps.  If you have any questions about beards, please e-mail Susan Armstrong.

I heard something about taking a picture for my Christmas Journey registration.  Do I need to do that somewhere?
We do need current pictures to help with casting for CJ and there are several ways to submit a picture to go along with your registration.
     * Check your online profile on First Connect and see if there is a picture (www.fbcmckinney.com - click on First Connect, login and click on "My Complete Profile" under "I Want to View").  If you have children 5th grade or younger, you likely have a picture from your security badge.  If the picture isn't a current representation, please update that photo by uploading a more current one to your profile.  If you need help, e-mail Amy Samuel.
     * You can also e-mail a current photo to Amy Samuel.
     * If you can not upload a picture or e-mail a picture, please stop by the CJ kiosk in the Connection on Sunday morning to have a picture taken.

I can't be a part of the cast during the Journey, December 10th-13th, but I'd like to help in some other way.  What can I do?
There are several workdays on Saturdays beginning in October when sets will begin being pulled out of storage and assembled around the church campus.  If you would like to help prepare for the Journey, please contact Donna Kilgo at 469.424.1609.
We will also need food prepared for the workdays as well as the Journey days in December.  If you can help with food, please contact Amy Samuel at 469.424.1624.

I ordered a t-shirt for the Journey.  How and where can I pick that up?
If you ordered a t-shirt online, those will be ready for pick up in the Connection on Sunday, November 8th.  Pre-orders on t-shirts will be available through noon on Friday, November 6th - click here.  After November 6th, t-shirts will be available for purchase while supplies last in the Worship & Arts office (check or cash only).  Contact Amy Samuel for more information.  Shirts are long sleeved and navy.   These shirts are excellent advertisement for the Journey.
